How to Know if You are Saved

Do you bear good fruit?

As Christians, our lives should reflect Christ. The actions we take, the words we speak, & the attitudes we display are all fruit. You must ask yourself honestly: do you bear good or bad fruit? Are you a living example of Jesus to those around you?

Examples of Good Fruit

Love, Patience, Charity, Longsuffering, Peace, Repentance, Forgiveness, Kindness, Compassion, Gentleness, Self-Control, Gratitude, Helping the needy, Encouragement. Giving glory to God, Humbleness, Meekness, Selflessness, Sharing the gospel

Examples of Bad Fruit

Anger, Sexual Immorality, Lust, Greed, Selfishness, Complaining, Lying & Deceitfulness, Resentment, Gossip, Love of money & idols, Filthy Language, Blasphemy, Arrogance, Living to please the flesh, Quarrelsome, Bickering, Mocking, Conceitedness

Does the Holy Spirit convict you of sin in your life?

A significant difference between a saved and a lost soul is the level of awareness & guilt towards sin. Saved Christians are convicted by the Holy Spirit to do what is right. If you are saved, you’ll feel guilty of sins you commit against God. You’ll have no choice but to once again retreat into His mercy & forgiveness.

When a lost person commits a sin, they don’t have any desire to repent of their sin to God- feeling no trace of conviction from the Holy Spirit.

Do you put God first?

With so many distractions in today’s busy world, the devil has made it easy to get off course and forget what’s most important. Saved Christians seek God daily, yearning for a closer relationship with Him. Going to church every Sunday to listen to a sermon is not enough for God to be #1 in your life. Many times we’ll face a choice: to seek God or to do our own activity. If we are to get closer to Jesus, we must dedicate time to prayer, fasting, & reading scriptures.

Is your faith in the blood of Jesus Christ?

We often put our faith in our own works. Lost people believe that good people, who do good things, will go to heaven. However it says in scripture that even our greatest works are like filthy rags in heaven. Salvation is a gift from God, and can only be received through Him. We can never earn or pay our way into the book of life. It is by faith alone in Jesus Christ we are saved. Do you believe Jesus died for your sins?

Are you still repenting?

One of the greatest deceptions of Christianity today is the idea that repeating a single prayer asking Jesus to come into your heart will absolutely grant your eternal salvation. This is nowhere to be found in scripture. It’s not a one-time coupon. If you are truly saved, you will repent of your sins not just once, but on an ongoing basis. Sin puts barriers between our relationship with Christ. To break those barriers, we must repent & and ask for His forgiveness.
